Garden Journal

Womyn work wonders: The Womyn’s Community Garden can always use some extra help. Participants work in the garden on the third Saturday of every month from 1 to 6 p.m. and every Tuesday afternoon from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The garden is located at 46 Dortch Ave., across from the UNCA woods. Knowing when to say “when”: The North Carolina State University Department of Crop Science and the State Climate Office have collaborated to launch an Internet-based decision aid that will help lawn owners irrigate efficiently. The Turf Irrigation Management System is available at no cost to anyone in North Carolina, from homeowners to turf professionals. Using a combination of a short questionaire and weather data from the N.C. Climate Retrieval and Observations Network of the Southeast, TIMS calculates the irrigation needed by the lawn owner’s turf. Visit www.TurfFiles.ncsu.edu/TIMS for more information.
