I clearly remember seeing Marc Forster’s Stranger Than Fiction for the first time on a Saturday morning during the 2006 Asheville Film Festival. I remember it partly because I’d ducked the awards run-through to catch the film at its first show of the day, and partly because of the trepidation I felt about the movie. I’d been seeing the trailer for ages and I’d always start thinking, “This looks really good,” only to remember, “Oh, Christ, it’s Will Ferrell.” Well, imagine my surprise when I was so delighted by the film that I found myself shilling for it in the midst of presenting whatever award I was presenting (that, I do not remember). I’ve seen it maybe six or seven times since then, and I’m always surprised by how good it is.
