Synth Syllabus

Moog Music will host two, one-hour workshops on Saturday, March 14. Here is a description of each class from the organizers.

EQ’ing and Side Chain Compression in Ableton Live, 4-5 p.m.
Instructors: Paul Gaeta, Rob Gray

“Learn the skillful art of equalizing your sounds and instruments within Ableton Live.  EQ’ing is one of the most important skills to master as an audio engineer and producer. Ableton comes stocked with two different EQ devices, and Paul Gaeta will demonstrate how to use both to get a well-balanced, dynamic mix.

Sometimes instruments, such as bass and kick drums, compete for the same frequency range.  An often-used solution is side-chain compression, which can help create room for each sound to breathe.  Using this technique along with specialized EQ treatments can lead to full spectrum basslines with both punch and movement. Rob Gray will show us the way. (Beginner to intermediate level.)”

Using the Moog Werkstatt-01 in Ableton, 5-6 p.m.
Instructor: Amahl Abdul-Khaliq

“Producer and Upbeat Academy instructor Amahl Abdul-Khaliq will be showing us how he uses a Moog Werkstatt-01 to make a groove based track from scratch.  Known for his melodic hip hop and electronica, Amahl is coming all the from New Orleans to share some of his experience with our community.   Learn some analog synthesis alongside valuable production tips from a beat making road warrior.”
