Quality Forward is a volunteer-based Keep America Beautiful affiliate that works to achieve a clean and green Asheville and Buncombe County through community organizing, education, stewardship development and partnerships. Emphasis is placed on project-oriented work through cleanup events and beautification plantings.
Quality Forward has developed and implemented the Adopt-a-Street program, works with groups year-round on cleanup projects, sponsors Lunchtime Litter Walks on Tuesdays throughout the summer, and organizes the Great American Cleanup and the N.C. Big Sweep annually. The organization has planted thousands of trees, restored and built dozens of playgrounds and parks, created green space throughout the city and county, and presented hundreds of awards for outstanding environmental improvements. Quality Forward works to educate the public about environmental issues, and actively heads and supports environmental initiatives in the region.
Scott Riviere, former chairperson, who is a preservationist, environmentalist and community activist, says, “I can’t imagine what our public spaces would look like if it weren’t for the consistent efforts of Quality Forward.”
Upcoming events include receiving the proceeds of Downtown After Five wristband sales Friday, June 20, and the Ashevillage Convergence work day at the W.C Reid Center on Saturday, June 21. Info: 254-1776 or www.qualityforward.org.
