The keynote speaker at Time for Our Power!: Women Bringing Change to the World will be (drum roll, please) … Academy Award-winning actress, author and activist Jane Fonda. The conference, which aims to inspire women to bring about change in the world, will be held in June of 2008 at the Asheville Civic Center.
Fonda was invited to speak in Asheville by conference organizers Patty Levesque, Lisa Watters (both Xpress staffers) and Maureen McDonnell. On June 25, the three women hosted the first conference fund-raising event and broke the news that Fonda had accepted their invitation. “The excitement of having Jane Fonda come to be our keynote speaker is overwhelming,” says Levesque. “As it was when I heard her speak in New York City and when I shook her hand!”
Conference organizers also awarded Tracey Stevens, winner of the conference logo-design contest, with $500. You’ll be seeing Stevens’ artwork, pictured here, quite a bit in the months to come, as it now serves as the official Time for Our Power! icon.
