As most small-business owners in Asheville will tell you, their venture started with a vision. They had an idea, a concept, a notion of what would work.
Julian Price, who died in 2001, had a vision for downtown Asheville when he moved here in 1990: a vibrant and very live-able town center. Working largely behind the scenes, he helped make that vision come alive, quietly supporting entrepreneurs like Joan and Joe Eckert of Laughing Seed Café and nonprofits like Quality Forward (now Asheville GreenWorks). Read more about Price in this annual “Open for Business” section.
You’ll also find a feature on a new town center, Biltmore Square Town Square. And we offer a brief look at some local and regional economic news (some numbers are down, some are creeping upward).
Whatever the numbers, as Kilwin’s co-owner Marcy Gallagher told Xpress a few weeks ago, “We’re hopeful … and looking forward.”
Is it by accident this week’s cover of Mountain Xpress is sportin’ a.. um.. (WAY too embarrassed to say.)
