Brother Wolf Canine Rescue is a small group of local people who rescue homeless dogs from the streets or the shelters, provide veterinary care and behavior training, and foster the animals until they can be placed into a permanent home. Founder Denise Bitz says, “Brother Wolf Canine Rescue helps all dogs, regardless of age or breed, and often regardless of illness or disability. Every animal we rescue will be cared for until he orshe is placed into a permanent, loving home.”
BWRC believes that by educating the community about responsible pet care, promoting adoption over purchasing animals, emphasizing the importance of spaying and neutering, and advocating for animal welfare, we can realize a day when there will be no more homeless pets.
Since it’s inception in 2006, the nonprofit has been able to rescue and find homes for more than 250 dogs. To continue to help accomplish their mission, the group is always looking for ways to fundraise. Yard sales are held monthly, with all money raised benefiting the dogs in need. Donated items are always accepted to sell at the yard sales.
Brother Wolf Canine Rescue holds adoption days every Saturday: the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month at Pet Supplies Plus in South Asheville and the 2nd and 4th at Greenlife Grocery on Merrimon Avenue. Info: www.brotherwolfcaninerescue.org or 808-9435.
