Local Occupy Asheville activist John Penley started the May Day Labor rally a bit early this afternoon, sitting on the sidewalk in front of the Patton Avenue branch of Bank of America two hours before the rally was scheduled to start. Penley, who was arrested during the city’s eviction of Occupy Asheville protesters in February, held a sign calling for a general strike in honor of International Worker’s Day and said that Occupy groups around the country are planning major actions for the afternoon.
