The Asheville Police Departments arrested Jack Meredith Martin, 71, of Arden, this morning as the suspected gunman in the May 6 Country Inn robbery.

In the early morning hours of May 11, 2011, detectives from the Asheville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division conducted a search warrant at 70 Old Shoals Road in Arden. As a result, Jack Meredith Martin was arrested and charged with the robbery from the Country Inn Suites at 845 Brevard Rd. on May 6, 2011. The investigating detectives had received information from the public which led to Martin’s identification.
Once transported to the Buncombe County Detention Center, Martin was charged with 2nd Degree Kidnapping, Felony Breaking & Entering x2, Larceny after Breaking & Entering, and Assault by Pointing a Gun. His bond was set at $230,000 secured. Martin’s prior charges in Rutherford County include Murder and Attempted Murder from 2005; however those convictions were overturned on appeal in 2007.
