APD seeks police impersonator

The Asheville Police Department has released a composite sketch of a man who allegedly impersonated a police officer in a May 8 incident on Long Shoals Road.

Full announcement below:

ASHEVILLE – The Asheville Police Department is asking for the communities help in identifying a potential police impersonator.  On Sunday May 8, 2011; during the early morning hours a female motorist was stopped by a Black Ford Mustang displaying a single blue light on the dash, near the intersection of Long Shoals and Schenck Parkway.  During the course of the interaction with the impersonator he had her exit the vehicle and then began to pat her down in an inappropriate manner.  The victim challenged the impersonator at which time he then gave her a “verbal warning” and left the area.  The suspect is described as a white male, 6 feet tall, clean cut with short brown hair.  He was wearing a black button down shirt and blue jeans, no badge or handgun displayed.

Since this incident, a composite drawing of the suspect has been completed with the help of the victim.  Anyone with information should contact crimestoppers at 255-5050; or Det. J. Rikard at 259-5866.
