Press release
From the City of Asheville:
The Asheville Fire Department will be hosting a boot drive on September 14th from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the intersection of Patton Ave. and Louisiana Ave. Money raised at this boot drive will be used to assist the development of a memorial at the new Buncombe County Public Safety Training Facility which will honor fire, law enforcement, and EMS personnel. The memorial will be a lasting tribute to the emergency services personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty in Buncombe County and to those who continue to provide protection to our citizens. The memorial will be the focal point at the entrance of the training facility. For more information regarding this event, please contact Captain Shane Mackey at 828-242-3292.
Good question, Jeff. Boot drive (I had to ask): Firefighters man the streets, empty boots in hand. You fill the boots with donations …
I looked it up online and, apparently, a boot drive is “The disk drive that contains the operating system.” So look for the guys holding a computer’s internal hard drive, and put some cash in it (but no coins, they may short the circuit boards.)
