Full announcement from the Asheville Police Department below:
ASHEVILLE – The Asheville Police Department and AB Tech Security Police are currently monitoring a Bear sighting on the campus of both Asheville High School and AB Tech Community College. The call originated when witnesses first observed a bear cub near Little Pigs Barbeque on McDowell St. A subsequent sighting of another bear cub near the baseball fields at Asheville High School, necessitated a “soft” lockdown” of the high school.
After continuing to monitor the cubs movements, the last cub sighting was known to have occurred on the AB Tech campus, with the cub moving in a southwesterly track, towards Meadow Rd. NC Wildlife Management and Animal Control have been notified.
It should be noted that with the movement of the animals off campus, that the soft lockdown at the high school has been lifted; although a few restrictions on outside activity remain. School Resource Officers at the high school will continue to monitor the situation throughout the remainder of the school day.
Why did it take abtech so blasted long to tell its employees and us students what made the lockdown needed. abtech people were qoted in the CT as fast as 15 minutes after it began.
