Blog Log: The week in local blogging

The bloggers around here are a tight-knit community. Self referential, sure. But it also means bloggers often have each other’s backs. And its not always so literal as Liminal Screeds’ (very inside) slogan suggestions for the back of BlogAsheville T-shirts.

Bruisin’ Ales’ computer is down, but that’s OK because Ashvegas has the beer scene covered, noting that Highland has a new flavor coming out.

George the Bastard took umbrage at the content warning over at Pleasure Saucer. We didn’t have any problem getting to the site, but as always, it remains NSFW.

Sophie Seriously is urging everyone to join the antisyllabist movement, while Arratik is still wondering how Amazon.com makes this connection.

Edgy Mama, who took “time off” for the beach, is back. And while its good that everyone is watching out for each other online, we at Xpress especially appreciate Ephemera putting in a word for print newspapers.

Asheville on the Ground has the Longest Walk covered, while Hangover Journals found disappointment in the Naked Bike Ride.

Speaking of BlogAsheville —that definitive directory of local bloggers — they have this list of new blogs on the scene.

And we got a note from local band Mad Tea Party, which has this blog about life on tour.

Thanks for reading through to the end…

We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.

We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.

Before you comment

The comments section is here to provide a platform for civil dialogue on the issues we face together as a local community. Xpress is committed to offering this platform for all voices, but when the tone of the discussion gets nasty or strays off topic, we believe many people choose not to participate. Xpress editors are determined to moderate comments to ensure a constructive interchange is maintained. All comments judged not to be in keeping with the spirit of civil discourse will be removed and repeat violators will be banned. See here for our terms of service. Thank you for being part of this effort to promote respectful discussion.

    Great roundup, Brian!

There’s whispers of a BlogAsheville gathering next month downtown somewhere. And it’s not too long until the 3rd annual Extrava…

Thanks Ami — we’ve fixed the link.

And thanks for the charming Daniel Johnnston anecdote from last night that’s on your blog now!
