At its meeting today, Oct. 4, the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners will consider changing the county’s zoning rules to allow vacation rentals throughout the county, including in residential areas.
Under the county’s current zoning rules, vacation rentals are only allowed in commercial and denser residential zoning areas. The new rules would allow vacation rental homes in all of the county’s zoning areas, and, conditionally, rooming houses and vacation rental complexes in others. The proposal made it through the county’s planning board 5-1.
The commissioners will also consider passing rules accepting application for affordable housing developments under their affordable housing plan, and receive a report from the Western Highlands Network.
The Buncombe County Board of Commissioners meets at 4:30 p.m., Oct. 4 in their chambers on 30 Valley St.
