Buncombe commissioners will almost certainly approve county-wide zoning at their meeting this Tuesday, May 1. The board approved proposed zoning in a 3-2 vote at the conclusion of a public hearing last week. Because the vote wasn’t unanimous, a second vote is required, but the outcome is unlikely to change. Commissioiners David Gantt, Carol Peterson and David Young have indicated that they will repeat their votes in favor of the measure.
In other business, the Asheville Design Center will present it’s suggestions for the I-26 corridor through Asheville, and Assistant County Manager Mandy Stone will discuss prospective consolidation of county Human Services. There will also be a discussion of HealthNet, a plan aimed at providinig health-care coverage for uninsured residents.
Board of Commissioners meetings are held in the Buncombe County courthouse at 4:30 p.m. and are preceded by a public comment period, which begins at 4:10 p.m.
