The three Republicans fighting for their party’s nomination to challenge Democratic Congressman Heath Shuler this November kick off the debate season tonight in downtown Asheville.
The Republican contenders for the 11th Congressional District seat will debate from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at the YMI Cultural Center at the corner of Eagle and Market streets in Asheville. Candidates John Armor, Spence Campbell and Carl Mumpower are scheduled to attend. The winner of the May 6 primary will face Shuler in the fall.
The debate is sponsored by Black Republicans of Western North Carolina and the Buncombe County GOP.

Thanks for reading through to the end…
We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.
We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.
And for folks looking for something different, Drinking Liberally will be watching the Obama/Clinton at the Asheville Brewing Company at 77 Coxe Ave. tonight (2/21) at 8pm.

My understanding is that the debate will air on public access in Asheville. I’m assuming it will be posted, same as the first debate, by Sound Off Buncombe on YouTube.
