This week’s run of the famed political comic strip Doonesbury is taking comical aim at a number of armed legislators, including WNC’s own Rep. Heath Shuler.
In the long-running strip, Garry Trudeau has never shied away from poking fun at politicians, and Shuler’s announcement that he’d be carrying a concealed weapon to constituent meetings caught the cartoonist’s eye. Monday’s strip mentioned Shuler, along with representatives Don Young (R-Alaska) and Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah). Yesterday’s edition had Shuler bragging about his action hero-level firearms prowess, and today’s strip sees him facing a “well-regulated militia” at a meeting.

I used to read Trudeau’s comic strip when he was an undergraduate at Yale in the school’s newspaper “The Yale Daily News” back in 1970. I was glad to see he suceeded and still has that great edge for his craft.
Funny how he nailed it with good ole boy, Heath!
Keep ’em coming, Gary: Happy 40 years!
Another reason I don’t read comics.
Very funny and so true … gun freaks are all the same!
Does a blue dog hunt?
Nahhhh… it’s just a blue heeler, watch yer ankles.

Funny, David, I feel the same way about Mallard Fillmore.
I doubt there is ANYONE who didn’t see Shuler’s little ‘gun announcement’ as the publicity stunt it was. He’s a tool.
@mat-Mallard Fillmore is like soysage. A poor imitation of authentic.
