An upcoming seminar could spark ideas for green rooftops here in Asheville. Jeff Stillman, executive vice president of Massachusetts-based ZinCo USA, is traveling here to speak on vegetated green-roof design, a trend that’s caught on throughout Europe, Asia and in some U.S. cities.
With a world headquarters in Germany, ZinCo specializes in “environmentally smart green-roof systems.” The company has offices in 17 countries and has been contracted to install vegetated rooftops on everything from zoos to hospitals to municipal buildings.
LandDesign, a landscape-architecture firm that has an Asheville office, will host the free seminar, which is entitled “Introduction to Green Roof Design.” Kimberly Walker, who organized the event, hopes to attract architects, green builders and members of city and county government who are involved in planning. LandDesign will cover the cost of registration — and lunch — for all participants. The seminar is AIA and ASLA accredited.
The event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Grove Arcade. For more information, contact Walker at kwalker@landdesign.com.
