Asheville’s official trash cans are easy on residents and city workers, but the hydraulic lift system used to empty them is rough on the cans’ wheels. They are prone to falling off, presumably due to the thumping they get as they return to earth after the jump and dump. On one block of Fulton Street alone, I counted four containers so damaged.
The good news is that the city will stop by and fix your “flat,” if you phone them. Solid Waste Manager Wendy Simmons told Xpress. “In the last few months, we have received approximately 29-31 roll cart repair requests per month. These requests could be for broken wheels, lids, cracks, etc. In most cases, we are able to repair the container without replacing it.”
Contact the city’s Sanitation Service at 259-5857 and they will fix you up in two weeks or less.
