Let the Downtown Association buy you a drink: Spring meeting this afternoon

Who is the Asheville Downtown Association, and why would they want to buy you a drink?

To find out, drop in at the Orange Peel this evening (Tuesday, April 15) for a membership kick-off event. There, you can meet new members face-to-face, listen to speakers addressing downtown concerns, and find out how to get involved. There will also be a live performance by Tennessee Hollow String Band. The reception begins at 5 p.m., and the program —  which will address some “new and exciting things in the works,” according to the invite — starts at 6 p.m..

According to its Web site, the mission of ADA is to be a voice of the downtown community and to promote and support quality economic, cultural and residential development in downtown Asheville. The association is partnering with Asheville’s Office of Economic Development to oversee the creation of the Downtown Master Plan. Public-input sessions for that process will occur throughout the spring.

ADA is also gearing up for its series of downtown entertainment events, including Jazz After Five, Downtown After Five, a speaker series, Nouveau Night and Holiday Windows. See their calendar of events for more information.

It only takes a moment.

Before you comment

The comments section is here to provide a platform for civil dialogue on the issues we face together as a local community. Xpress is committed to offering this platform for all voices, but when the tone of the discussion gets nasty or strays off topic, we believe many people choose not to participate. Xpress editors are determined to moderate comments to ensure a constructive interchange is maintained. All comments judged not to be in keeping with the spirit of civil discourse will be removed and repeat violators will be banned. See here for our terms of service. Free drinks? Free bluegrass?

    I hope there’s a full frisking and complete pat-down for attendees…

    Hah-hah.

    Just kidding.
