Motivational event to lock up downtown parking

The city of Asheville is warning drivers away from downtown on Tuesday, Sept. 9, when the nationally famous Get Motivated seminar drops in at the Civic Center.

According to a press release from Asheville’s Transportation and Engineering Department, the event is expected to bring 3,000 attendees to the Civic Center, and parking decks are predicted to be full by 7 a.m. The event begins at 8 a.m.

Alongside encouragement to carpool or ride the bus on that day, the notice also points out that Get Motivated will be providing a free shuttle from the Asheville Mall to the Civic Center for both seminar attendees and commuters from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Details on transportation and parking options can be found at www.ashevillenc.gov/parking, along with a link to a carpool-networking site.

As a final note, the city also urges drivers to be wary of pedestrians and to not hit them.

    It’s good to know that the city comes down firmly on the anti-pedestrian-murder side of this deeply divisive issue. I applaud their brave stand!
