The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement warning that severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and early evening across most of WNC, including Buncombe County.
A line of severe thunderstorms ahead of a strong cold front “will move across the region with the potential to produce widespread wind damage with some wind gusts in the 50 to 70 MPH range,” according to the NWS alert. “In addition… there is potential for a few brief tornadoes to develop.”
The alert also warns of isolated flooding and urges people across WNC to be on the lookout for dangerous weather.
Meanwhile, Ray’s Weather Center predicts that the rain will turn to snow flurries late tonight into Thursday morning.
UPDATE: The NWS has issued a tornado watch for Buncombe County until 8 p.m. today.
