Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney addressed a packed crowd at Asheville’s US Cellular Center Thursday after being introduced by conservative pundit Mike Huckabee and Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner. The trio’s appearance comes just over a week after a visit to Asheville by Vice President Joe Biden. Both Romney and Biden expressed confidence that their presidential bids would prevail in North Carolina, illustrating the state’s importance in the upcoming election. A small group of protesters gathered outside and were met with opposing comments from the throng of Romney supporters that clogged Haywood Street much of the afternoon.
