The second in a series of meetings on a new downtown master plan for Asheville will be held Thursday evening.
This meeting’s focus will be a panel discussion titled “History of Downtown Asheville: Understanding the Context”; it will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the city’s Public Works Building, 161 S. Charlotte St.
A kick-off meeting was held May 8. For an updated schedule of meetings on the Downtown Master Plan, go here.

Thanks for reading through to the end…
We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.
We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.
Why doesn’t city council just go ahead and TELL us what they’ve hired these PR people to try to sell us on and when we speak out, just do it anyway…as usual. This way, we can get the investigations/impeachments/recalls/indictments going and I won’t have to leave Asheville so soon.
