Tweet for beer (at Bele Chere)

Xpress is inviting Tweeters, photographers and videographers to join us in telling the tales of this year’s Bele Chere festival. Do so, and we’ll buy you a beer on Sunday.

Bele Chere is a huge event, with many different aspects. Xpress staff will be out in force, but we also want to open the floor to perspectives and stories from around the community.

To that end, we’ll have live comments coming in from Twitter to our website. Anyone tweeting about the festival just needs to put the hashtag #belechere in their messages. We’ll see it, and our moderators will put informative, witty, funny and newsworthy tweets up on our main page.

Not on Twitter yet? It’s a fun tool and perfect for sending out your quick thoughts and observations about the festival. You can create an account here and here’s a handy guide for using it well. It can be used from your computer or your cell phone, making it ideal for reporting from the midst of the festival.

And if Twitter’s not your thing, we also invite you to send your photographs and videos directly to news [at] mountainx.com or send us the links if you’ve chosen to put them somewhere else on the Web (like flickr or YouTube).

And we’ll buy you a beer.

We mean that. Show up at Asheville Brewing Company on Coxe Avenue at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday and you’ll get a chance to introduce yourself in person, meet your fellow Bele Chere observers and drink a delicious beverage as Xpress’ way of saying thanks.

Here’s how you can earn a beer:

* If you’re using Twitter, get five tweets on the #belechere feed on our website over the course of the festival. Make ‘em good, on-topic and fun — and our moderators will feed them into the ongoing coverage.

* If you send in a photo or video and we use it in our coverage.

* Do either, we get you a beer on Sunday.

If you have any questions, contact me at dforbes [at] mountainx.com or via my own Twitter account.

Thanks for reading through to the end…

We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.

We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.

Before you comment

The comments section is here to provide a platform for civil dialogue on the issues we face together as a local community. Xpress is committed to offering this platform for all voices, but when the tone of the discussion gets nasty or strays off topic, we believe many people choose not to participate. Xpress editors are determined to moderate comments to ensure a constructive interchange is maintained. All comments judged not to be in keeping with the spirit of civil discourse will be removed and repeat violators will be banned. See here for our terms of service. Thank you for being part of this effort to promote respectful discussion.

  1. What a great idea! Watch our super fun, thirst creating set at 2:30pm at the Battery Park stage (tweeting throughout); and then head on over to ABC for your free beer. I love it!

So if we snap a funny/interesting/weird pic from our phone and you use it we get a free beer. I’m going to learn how to use my camera:)
