The URTV Board of Directors will hold a special meeting on June 15 to vote on dismissing outspoken board member Richard Bernier. The meeting will be held in URTV’s studios (31 College Place) at 5 p.m., according to an announcement from Executive Director Pat Garlinghouse.
Bernier has been a vocal critic of the publi- access channel’s management, asserting it is not sufficiently transparent. Recent months have seen a number of controversies at URTV, with critics asserting that the station is in need of major reform. Meanwhile, management supporters say that its operations have improved and accuse the critics of bringing negative publicity to the station at a crucial time.
Removing Bernier will require the support of a two-thirds majority vote of the board.
The meeting is one of two dismissals recommended in February by the board’s executive committee, composed of the station’s officers. The other, of Davyne Dial, also a management critic, was carried out through a vote of URTV’s membership. Dial and some of her supporters have said that the vote was improperly carried out.
