Here’s your weekly sneak-peek video for the upcoming edition of Mountain Xpress. It was produced by none other than Ralph Roberts, an Asheville videographer and board member at Asheville’s public-access channel, URTV. Xpress invited Roberts to give us a few pointers on video production and show us what he could do.
This week’s cover story focuses on Ray’s Weather Center, a Boone-based Internet company offering weather data and forecasts for Western North Carolina. Over the past 10 years, the company has grown from a one-man operation to a company that employs five meteorologists, publishes real-time weather data to the Web and offers forecasts written with a little extra pizzazz.

Thanks for reading through to the end…
We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.
We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.
The comments section is here to provide a platform for civil dialogue on the issues we face together as a local community. Xpress is committed to offering this platform for all voices, but when the tone of the discussion gets nasty or strays off topic, we believe many people choose not to participate. Xpress editors are determined to moderate comments to ensure a constructive interchange is maintained. All comments judged not to be in keeping with the spirit of civil discourse will be removed and repeat violators will be banned. See here for our terms of service. Thank you for being part of this effort to promote respectful discussion.

“Todd Rundgren, the rocker from back-when…” Grr. That was an unfortunate mischaracterization. He’s been releasing albums pretty consistently. This ain’t a “comeback tour”!

meh, the whole time the sound kept cutting out and a numbered wheel appeared to be counting down something.
go back to the way it was.
i liked the guy walking up the stairs to Jason’s right. And there’s something about Todd Rundgren? Really? Maybe the Orange Peel? Cool!
Musoscribe63:
Thanks for the correction — I’m not familiar with Rundgren’s recent work, but I should have been before characterizing it. Rock on, Rundgren.
The hunchback creeping up the stairs… was that Bobby Medford?
he appeared to be a homeless dude with an 82nd Airborne patch.
which, of course, does not necessarily negate your guess.
I like it, Ralph. Particularly the opening with the stills of Jon and Jason and their snazzy name tags.
Thanks for taking making this sneak peek on, particularly after I threw it out as an option without asking anyone if it would be ok!
No problem… I enjoyed doing it. ;-)
Finally, the pieces have come together. RR + MX = video magic.
I’m saddened that I wasn’t around to be a part of it.
I actually liked the sneak peeks the way they were – gritty and real. Go back everyone, go back…
hey, we had a homeless person in it… how much more real can you get?
