The duo once called Asheville home and were back in town earlier this year for a tour stop.
The duo’s concept of world music is expansive enough to include most anything, but in the process it remains true to the fundamental characteristics of African music.
Diarra is a n’goni & balafon player from Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso in West Africa. He’s been in Asheville for nearly five years and has fronted West African groups Mande Foly and now The AZA Band with multi-instrumentalist Biko Cassini and percussionist Jessie Lehmann.
The two play their album release set at Dobra Tea in Black Mountain on Saturday, June 13, from 3-5 p.m.
