It’s time to say goodbye to Brian McGee. After 11 years, the singer is parting with his adopted home to pursue other avenues, but not before he plays one last show. We caught up with McGee at his house, piled high with moving boxes, for an acoustic rendition of Plow United’s “The World According to Me” in advance of his performance Saturday at The Grey Eagle.
We’re taking to the streets, forests and shops of Asheville to highlight the brightest in local music. And the best part? There’s no cover and you don’t have to leave the house!
Whether you’re looking for jazz, Americana, country or doom metal, we’ve got a weekend performance to match. And if music doesn’t sing to you, there’s film, theater and art as well, all for less than it costs to park downtown.
For his sophomore effort, local punk-turned-country musician Brian McGee dropped the Hollow Speed, traded fiddles and banjos for organs and pedal steel and settled in at Echo Mountain Recording, emerging with 12 songs that exist — musically, lyrically and sonically — in a whole other realm than his self-titled debut.
The punk-influenced Americana artist opened for Jill Andrews. He has a few shows of his own coming up (and a new album).
