He said the demonstration will be held at 2 p.m. in Pack Square Park and invited the public to attend.

Rappelling 9/11 fundraiser creates fallout for GOP
Last weekend, the Buncombe County GOP threw a fundraiser on 9/11 at the Bee Tree Fire Station in Swannanoa. The event featured participants rappelling down a 90-foot tower, with donors asked to contribute $100 per rappel. In its wake, the event and an associated video used to promote it have set off a storm of criticism. Last night, Asheville police made 13 arrests related to the Phish concert, all involving drug charges. A police spokesperson emphasized that the crowd of some 10,000 people “was mostly peaceful and caused no major problems for police,” and City Council member Carl Mumpower also sent out a missive praising the event as “fun, safe and managed.”
