In advance of last week’s show at Tiger Mountain, Crushed Out performed a new song, “Cool Clear Water,” for Xpress.
The surf/blues/rock duo — guitarist Franklin Hoier and percussionist Moselle Spiller — not only live out of their van but also run an independent record label from the road. “We’re a true mom-and-pop outfit,” says Hoier. “We do everything ourselves.
When it comes to recordings, “The tempo is the heartbeat of the song,” says Franklin Hoier, half of drum-and-guitar duo Crushed Out. Tempo is their business. So is touring, which Hoier and Spiller have done nearly constantly for the last three years.
The Brooklyn-based garage-rock duo opened for Darwin Deez at The Grey Eagle last weekend, performing a high-energy set covering ‘60s influences from girl groups and dance crazes to surf guitar and garage rock. Photo from the band’s website.
