The 4th annual Music on the Mountaintop took up residence at Grandfather Campground in Banner Elk this weekend, weathering extreme winds and overcast skies for two days of family-friendly music, games and community. Xpress was there Saturday to bring you this look.
Nationally touring acts like Sam Bush, Railroad Earth, Acoustic Syndicate, Greensky Bluegrass and Frontier Ruckus are expected to draw more than 5,000 fans to the high country this weekend, with a host of local performers including Naked Gods, Uncle Mountain, River Whyless, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, Secret B-Sides and Town Mountain rounding out the bill.
Festivities at Music on the Mountaintop got an early start Saturday morning as the sun rose over the misty Boone hills and drowsy campers rubbed the sleep from their eyes.
The third annual Music on the Mountaintop opened Friday under cloudy skies in Boone, with performances by local favorites like Now You See Them, Uncle Mountain, Josh Phillips Folk Festival, Holy Ghost Tent Revival and more.
Boone fest hosts Toubab Krewe, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, Snake Oil Medicine Show, Larry Keel & Natural Bridge and a bunch more.
