Code Purple will have nearly 100 beds available for emergency overnight shelter for Asheville’s unhoused population when the temperature is freezing or below. The program will also operate for two additional months in the winter and spring of 2022-23.
First established in London in 1865, the Salvation Army’s local branch formed in Asheville a quarter of a century later in 1890.
During January, which is Human Trafficking Awareness month, newly launched local organization Project FIGHT is hosting several events aimed at raising awareness and funds to combat trafficking in Western North Carolina. Rock band Armadilla will headline one such benefit concert at The Mothlight on Sunday, Jan. 29.
