Irish singer Karan Casey is only performing at a handful of venues on the East Coast to support her most recent CD, Two More Hours, including the Diana Wortham Theatre (2 South Pack Square) in Asheville on Friday, May 15, at 8 p.m.
As a member of Solas for four and a half years and now six albums into her solo career, Casey has garnered awards and Grammy recognition. Two More Hours is her first entirely self-penned CD, and it includes the melodic lullaby, “Gentle Annie” composed for Casey’s late mother.
In a recent interview with Irish Music Magazine, Casey said, “The album was more about growing up and saying this is my truth, this is my story, and I trust ye enough to listen to it.”
In line with the contemporary sound of this new CD, Casey is touring with guitarist Matt Heaton and Corey DiMario on double bass.

This May finds Irish singer Karan Casey touring in support of her most recent CD, Two More Hours. From County Wexford in Ireland, Casey’s career has spanned over twenty years. She has sung with everyone (from James Taylor to the Irish traditional band Solas) everywhere (from The Grand Ole Opry to the Hollywood Bowl). Her voice is one of the most innovative, provocative, and even imitated, voices in Irish music.
Two More Hours is Karan’s first entirely self-penned CD, and it includes the melodic lullaby, “Gentle Annie” composed for Casey’s late mother. In a recent interview with Irish Music magaine, she describes the song writing and recording: “The album was more about growing up and saying this is my truth, this is my story, and I trust ye enough to listen to it.”
In line with the contemporary sound of this new CD, Casey is touring with guitarist Matt Heaton and Corey DiMario on double bass. Heaton’s playing has been described as “tight, sweet, and tasteful, lacking nothing in either technical expertise or instrumental virtuosity.” DiMario “adds rock solid, low-end accompaniment and driving rhythm to any musical situation.”
The trio will perform a handful concerts on the East Coast; and at the month, Karan will join the Boston Pops Orchestra in Symphony Hall on their “Celtic Sojourn,” celebrating Boston’s vibrant Celtic heritage.
