SHOW POSTER SHOW

Local artists, collectors, foodies and brewers join together for a HUGE poster show in Marshall tonight, Friday, April 1.

The Madison County Arts Council presents SHOW POSTER SHOW, an exhibit of poster art from private collections and local designers. This will be a showcase of many different forms of poster art.

While primarily focused on concert posters, the exhibit will also feature examples of vintage and current circus advertisement, political, and abstract poster art. Expect to be dazzled by the array of artwork on display.

The show will feature local designers James Flames, Drew Findley, Isadora Bullock, Travis Medford, Nick Bieneck, and Lance Wille & Jason Krekel of Hand-Cranked Letterpress. These producers will be joined by a variety of private collectors, whose picks will include a huge variety of poster forms.

An opening reception will take place tonight, April 1 from 6-8 p.m. An after-hours show will feature music from Mad Tea Party (featuring Hand-Cranked’s Jason Krekel) and Dubalicious.

The event will feature tasty local brews from Pisgah Brewery, and food from Smoking J’s Fiery Foods, Spinning Spider Creamery and Zuma Coffee. The reception is free. Music will start at 8 p.m., with a suggested donation of $5. There will also be a raffle of donated items.

Erich Hubner, programs director of the Madison County Arts Council writes in a statement to the Xpress:
“Posters have been collected avidly by generations of fans — sometimes torn off of telephone poles — for their own enjoyment. As time went by, the “fine” art world began to recognize the brilliance of many of these designs, and today many are purchased in gallery houses like Sotheby’s. Toulouse-Latrec’s original Moulin-Rouge prints sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Today, print collecting is a way for art-lovers to get their hands on original works at a relatively affordable price. Many of the designers in the SHOW POSTER SHOW will have original prints on sale, and some will even be creating original works just for the event. Come and out to Marshall and feast your eyes on the incredible world of poster design!”
