According to a (founded) rumor spread by the Grey Eagle, the place to catch Asheville’s own Tyler Ramsey and Bill Reynolds is on tonight’s edition of the Late Show with David Letterman (11:30 p.m.).
Ramsey and Reynolds, of late, have been touring with Charleston, S.C.-based Band of Horses, a melodic indie outfit known for layered, atmospheric and sonically gorgeous pop-rock. The band was formed in Seattle by the bearded duo of guitarist and vocalist Ben Bridwell and guitarist Mat Brooke after the breakup of their former group, Carissa’s Wind. After the departure of Brooke, Bridwell added bassist Rob Hampton and drummer Creighton Barret to the lineup. The group’s mounting popularity has lead to numerous TV appearances, high-profile reviews and glossy-mag write-ups. This is their second appearance on Letterman for 2007, though their first with Ramsey and Reynolds in tow.
Reynolds signed on for the Band of Horses tour; they’re now on the road in support of their just released album, Cease to Begin which was recorded at Echo Mountain Studios (where Reynolds can be found when he’s not backing up one band or another). Ramsey, who was opening shows on the tour, signed on as part of the band last month.
(Xpress does want to know what this means for the release of Ramsey’s supposed January 2008 release, A Long Dream About Swimming Across the Sea.)
Web site Sounds Pretty also notes that Ramsey, Reynolds and Band of Horses will appear on the Late Night with Conan O’Brian, Monday, Nov. 5. That information is not yet available on the show’s web site, but air time is 12:35 a.m.

Tyler’s record will still be released in January on Echo Mountain Records. He is/will be opening most all the Band of Horses shows for quite some time, in addition to being part of the group itself.
The band is very supportive of Tyler’s budding solo career, and he’ll be performing his own shows as their touring schedule allows. We are EXTREMELY proud of both Bill and Tyler, and it is endlessly exciting to see some of our oldest and closest friends succeed in this very difficult occupation without compromising their artistic ideas or musical tastes.
So Alli & Steve (and we’re not complaining here…), why no mention of this in print? Or did we just miss it? Having two of the Asheville music scene’s favorite sons join one of the most talked-about rock bands in the last couple of years certainly seems news-worthy to us…
