Has everyone but me and the Pack family heirs forgotten that the City/County Plaza is supposed to belong to the people of Asheville and Buncombe County? It is not City Condo Plaza. The Pack deed is clear, and its intent is clear. Just because the commissioners found some legal loophole they thought they could exploit doesn’t make what they are trying to do right, ethical or moral.
And you, Pack Conservancy: You should be ashamed. To call yourselves a “conservancy” and capitulate [to] those who would try to steal public land is disgraceful and disgusting. Who cares if it is 11 stories tall or looks like it was designed for the 1920s? It doesn’t belong on public land! Speak up! Conserve what you are supposed to, for goodness sake: the integrity of the square, its purpose to serve the people, and—while you’re at it—the beautiful magnolia that everyone loves.
Stewart Coleman’s answering your questions with a “no comment” makes sense. After all, he’s already been ushered snugly inside the door—or so he thinks—so why would he have to answer to you fools? He doesn’t.
I’d like to know exactly who gets the money from this sale, and why they want it so badly. Why the hurry? I’ll tell you why: The perpetrators knew it was ethically wrong and wanted to sneak it by the people as fast as possible before they found out.
Mountain X, somebody, please do some investigative reporting. Don’t act like it is a done deal. Don’t give these backroom sneaks what they want.
And Pack so-called Conservancy: I’ll be glad to come to your meetings—the ones that are supposedly open to the public—if you chickens ever announce when and where they are going to be held.
