Remember the hideous reindeer sweater foisted on Colin Firth’s character in Bridget Jones’s Diary? The ultimate badge of dorkiness, these layering pieces boasting appliquéd holiday themes (snowmen, Christmas trees, Santa Claus) are now regularly ridiculed with “Seasonal Sweater Soirees” (look it up on YouTube). But maybe the ire is misplaced and, with a sense of humor, the right accessories and plenty of holiday cheer, seasonal sweaters can earn a place in our wardrobes. After all, even “mom jeans” are making a comeback.
Here, Xpress gives it a try. Mary Jo Marshall models.
Try this on
Fans of hit Bravo TV show Project Runway probably caught the recent episode where contestant Victorya Hong designed a plaid trapeze dress and shrunken vest ensemble for actress-turned-clothing maven Sarah Jessica Parker. Parker named Hong’s creation the winner. The reward? That outfit was adopted as part of Parker’s BITTEN line holiday collection. Buy the stretch cotton dress ($19.98) and plaid vest ($14.98) locally at Steve & Barry’s (800 Brevard Rd., Asheville, 667-0778).
