United Way’s Hands On Asheville-Buncombe

Lori Sweeney & Kassie Morton

Lend a hand to others in the community this holiday season with the help of United Way’s Hands On Asheville-Buncombe. Visit www.handsonasheville.org and choose a volunteer opportunity with an Asheville or Buncombe County nonprofit that works for you. With more than 200 short-term, seasonal and ongoing volunteer opportunities listed in the online database, you’re sure to find one that uses your skills and suits your schedule. Volunteer on your own, or with your family, business or faith community.

The holiday season is a special time of year, but for many Buncombe County residents the holidays can also accentuate the everyday challenges that local families face. You can help by serving a meal to homeless individuals and families, volunteering at a local mall’s “Giving Tree” in support of local agencies and their clients, or by delivering a holiday meal to homebound seniors. Or make a holiday donation: Turkeys and other food items are needed at area shelters and food banks, local animal-support organizations are in need of pet food and supplies, and several local organizations are collecting gifts for children’s holiday wish lists. These are just a few examples of ways you can give back.

Director of Hands On Asheville-Buncombe Sarah Catoe says, “During the holidays and throughout the year, Hands On Asheville-Buncombe encourages everyone to live united by giving, advocating and volunteering to inspire hope for a better tomorrow.”
