How cool would it be if Asheville had a Moogseum? That’s a current goal of the Bob Moog Foundation: To create a museum of electronic music pioneer Moog’s extensive archives and have space for interactive instrument-based exhibits.
To that end, the foundation, along with jam-favorites Umphrey’s McGee, will hold a benefit Saturday, Feb. 21, at Mo Daddy’s (before the band’s show at the Orange Peel that night). The band will perform on custom-tailored rigs set up by the folks at Moog, then have a meet-and-greet and limited edition poster signing afterwards.
It costs $35 to attend, with money raised going towards the Moogseum project. For more info, call Michelle Moog-Koussa at 683-7261.
Also on the Umphrey’s front, after the Orange Peel show there’s an after-party planned for the Garage at Biltmore. The lineup features Strut with Josh Phillips and the Jamie McLean band. The doors open at midnight, and the show is scheduled to start at 1 a.m. Cost is $10.
Congrats to Asheville-based singer/songwriter/Band of Horses-member Tyler Ramsey, whose song “Worried” was featured on a recent episode of ABC’s drama Private Practice.
Looking for a laugh? Catch Queer On Their Feet—a nontraditional comedy and improv show staged in a nontraditional venue. Smart comedians Jennie McNulty, Jason Dudey and Diana Yanez (who’ve all been featured on LOGO TV) bring their standup and improv to the First Congregational Church, 20 Oak Street, in downtown Asheville. Yanez just finished a tour with Margaret Cho.
The organizers note it’s not a religious event, they’re simply using that space as a venue. The show is Thursday, Feb. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 advance and $15 at the door. For more information, check www.myspace/queerontheirfeet.
