The gist, from the organizers:
What: Weldon Rising is an edgy and unpredictable play with apocalyptic themes, the tale of a circle of gay characters who grow estranged from each other after witnessing a hate crime.
There will be a speaker panel after the show Friday, April 10 to discuss hate crimes in our Asheville community, and talk-backs every night except the last show, April 18.
Who: Scapegoat Theatre Collective is a local, non-profit theatre committed to exciting, relevant theatre in a community based model.
When: Thursday nights through Saturday nights, April 9-11 and 16-18. Shows at 8 p.m., tickets are $15. Available at Malaprop’s.
Where: BeBe Theatre, 20 Commerce St.
Why: Proceeds benefit Youth OUTRight, a support and empowerment group for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and questioning youth.
Scapegoat always chooses powerful works. I saw “Weldon Rising” opening night and sat on the edge of my seat watching these relationships evolve from trauma. It’s gripping and hopeful.
i’m going this thursday!
i’ve got some friends in the cast and i’m really excited to see it.
if you show up early, rush tickets are only $8.
Thanks for the enthusiasm folks! It is a great show! Just want to correct, ‘rush tickets’ are available if you show up 10 minutes before the show, not early, as it is a fundraiser and we’re trying to make all the money we can for Youth OUTRight. If you want to reserve a ticket, go to Malaprop’s or call 828-333-3074. Just want to avoid confusion at box office. :) See you there!
