Opulent melodies, energetic folk rock, raw charisma: Kovacs & the Polar Bear (reviewed here) has it all. The band plays the Grey Eagle on Friday, April 9 with local emo/indie act Boys of Summer and folk-pop trio Englishman from Lexington, Kentucky. 9 p.m., $8.
On Saturday, April 10, Americana singer/songwriter/rocker Jonathan Ammons reunites his band The Electric Ghost to release sophomore album Just Beyond Jackson. The four-song EP is at turns raucous and tight, boozy and thoughtful, intricate and coarse. Says Ammons, “We’re releasing the Electric Ghost’s second and final record, recorded in our old house in Black Mountain almost two years ago. The band is a little different this time though. We’ve got Clayton and Jared from Broomstars, Rudy Columbo from the Humbuckers and You Dirty Rats, and Jeff Knorr from Secret B-Sides.” Ben Lambert is the only original Electric Ghost. Showtime is 9 p.m. at BoBo Gallery. $5 donation includes a CD.
