• Echo Gallery at Biltmore Park (8 Town Square Blvd., #160, Asheville, 687-7761) hosts a reception for spring exhibition Threads. The show features new work by by fiber artists Jen Swearington, Libby & Jim Mijanovich of Mija and Barbara Zaretsky, as well as ceramic pieces by Emily Reason (pictured). 5-8 p.m.
• Also from 5-8 p.m.: Artists Suzanne Shaffer (a Signature member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina) and Bruce Siulinski (landscape photographer) show new work at the Hilton Asheville Biltmore Park (43 Town Square Blvd., Asheville, 209-2700). All works (originals and reproductions) are for sale and the exhibit will remain on display through May 17.
• “Theresa Burden is graduating in May and would like to invite everyone to come see her Senior Art Show opening of her collection titled Alter Egos: Illustrations of the Inner Self,” reads the Facebook invite. Burden’s show is held on the second floor gallery of UNC-Asheville’s Owen Hall (1 University heights, Asheville), with refreshments served from 6-8 p.m. The exhibit remains on display through Tuesday, April 27.
• Local country band The Honeycutters puts on a free show at Well Bread Bakery & Cafe (26 North Main St., Weaverville, 645-9300). 7 p.m. (You can also hear them at 10 p.m. at Wild Wing Cafe, 161 Biltmore Ave., Asheville, 253-3066. Also free.)
• Nashville-based Christian rockers Matthew Smith & Indelible Grace play Covenant Presbyterian Church (2101 Kanuga Rd., Hendersonville, 693-8651). 7 p.m., love offering.
• Hard working folk rockers Michael Burgin & The Drinker’s Union put in an appearance at The Boiler Room (11 Grove St., Asheville, 505-1612). 8 p.m., $5.
• Steve Smith has been cropping up around Asheville, with his folky/surf-rock sound. Sometimes he goes by the band name Voodoo Wedding. This time, he plays Craggie Brewing (197 Hilliard Ave., Asheville, 254-0360) as himself. 8 p.m., free.
• Southern rock outfit Rewind Blue Bosco’s Sports Zone (2310 Hendersonville Hwy., Arden, 684-1024). 8 p.m., $5.
• The New Cosmic Band blends (appropriately) psychedelia, trance and love electronics. And they have awesome song titles: “Hurricanes and Rainbows” and “Big Bubbles” for example. Mo Daddy’s (77 Biltmore Ave., Asheville, 258-1550). 9:30 p.m., $5.
• Great lineup: indie rockers Noise in Print (pictured) join Andrew Larson & the Moral Fibers and Skull Thunder at The Rocket Club (401 Haywood Rd., Asheville, 505-2494). 9:30 p.m., $5.
• In Plain Sight is the house music project of Djs Lucas Ledford, Robert Johnson and Nomad in the Dark. Check out the monthly party at BoBo Gallery (22 N. Lexington Ave., Asheville, 254-3426) at 10 p.m.

• Terina Plyler and Secret Agent 23 Skidoo perform as part of YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day. Health screenings, obstacle courses, inflatables, arts& crafts, healthy snacks and live music take place at Carrier Park (220 Amboy Rd., Asheville). Info: 210-9622. 11 a.m.-3 p.m., free.
• Add Asheville Earth Day to the roster of free music events going on this weekend. The lineup includes The New Mastersounds, Acoustic Syndicate, Ther Afromotive, Salvador Santana, The Shane Pruitt Band, Pond Farm Pickers and Evergreen Marimba Band. 11 a.m.-10 p.m. at Martin Luther King Park (50 Martin Luther King Junior Dr.,
Asheville, 252-3250). Free.
• Asheville artist Jonas Gerard hosts Painting to Percussion: A Live Performance to Benefit Pack Square Park on the Reuter Terrace observation point in the park (downtown Asheville). Instrumental ensemble Free Planet Radio will accompany Gerard as he paints. The finished canvases will be displayed at Gerard’s studio (240 Clingman Ave., Asheville) and will be auctioned on ebay.com. The proceeds will be donated to Pack Square Park to support summer programs. 10 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. and 12:30-2 p.m.
• Peace Jones joins other local artists for Bonfires for Peace at Pritchard Park (downtown Asheville). 4-10 p.m., free.
• Okay, it’s a bit of a drive (50 minutes from Asheville) but worth it: Artist Taiyo La Paix holds an oeping for his latest show, Seduction at the Upstairs Artspace (49 South Trade St., Tryon, 859-2828). The sow also features art by Werner Haker and Liisa Salosaari Jasinski. 5-8 p.m.
• Acoustic singer/songwriter Katie LaRue puts on a free show at Well-Bred Bakery. 7 p.m.
• Also free: Black Mountain-based singer/songwriter Jenne Sluder, who appears at Double D’s Coffee & Desserts (41 Biltmore Ave., Asheville, 505-2439). 7:30 p.m.
• Local reggae/ska/punk act Dr. DP & the Trainrunners perform at “a festival supporting scholarships for Latino-American students. Dr. DP will be playing probably later in the day. Come out and support a noble cause and rock out to some DP.” UNC-Asheville Quad. 8 p.m., free.
• The Cisco Playboys say, of themselves, “Too country for jazz, too jazz for country!” The play western swing, honky tonk, rockabilly and Cajun music. The band takes the stage at The Westville Pub (777 Haywood Rd. West Asheville, 225-9782) at 9:30 p.m. $5.
• Eastern-inspires jazz/jam group Dashvara plays a free show at Mo Daddy’s at 10 p.m.
• Indie rockers If You Wannas and Seawhistle share a bill at Mike’s Side Pocket (375 Haywood Rd., West Asheville, 281-3096). 10 p.m.
