In this week’s podcast, Xpress film critics Ken Hanke and Justin Souther: Share their thoughts on newly released films A Piece of Work, Despicable Me, Winter’s Bone and Predators; say some very nice things about Peter Jackson’s Bad Taste (this week’s Thursday Horror Picture Show); praise Richard Lester’s Help! in advance of next week’s Asheville Film Society screening; and consider the potential merits and problems with soon-to-be-released flicks The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Inception and Cyrus.
Podcast produced/“cohered” by Steve Shanafelt for MountainX.com. The theme music is “1832” by E. Lee. The Elitist Bastards podcast is also available on the iTunes store as a free download. This week’s promo image was created by Jeremy Dylan.
nice picture.
The Abominable Show Men.
I think the “mad scientist” from “The Human Centipede” has found a new hobby.

Our good friend from Australia, Jeremy Dylan, seems to have a natural talent for this sort of thing. In less enlightened times, he would probably have been burnt at the stake for these affronts to nature.
I’m just pleased at how naturally Ken’s face seems to fit on his gorilla.
And he has more in store for us.
I had a productive week and there’s now a backlog.
I think I might work on a title sequence for the possible future video podcast that’s sometimes bandied about. Do you have an aspect ratio preference?
Just listened to the show. I think Ken is starting to turn into Rich Little.

Kinda fond of 1.20:1 myself, but that’s rather awkward in today’s world. Mr. Shanafelt should probably weigh in on this, but I’m guessing 1.85:1 or 16 X 9 is the going ratio.

Blame Steve. He tries to snooker me into doing an impression every week. Fortunately, we haven’t gotten to Edna May Oliver…yet.

How’s your Jimmy Stewart?
How’s your Jimmy Stewart?
He’s fine. How’s yours? (Actually, I don’t do Stewart. I do a mean Gregory Ratoff, though.)
Out of curiosity, are any of you subscribing to this podcast via iTunes?

They may not want to publicly admit such a thing.
You mean they might be embarrassed by their fandom? This must change. Hanke and Souther are the new Chewy and Boba Fett.

I’d never say anything that mean about you.

Guilty.

Well, that’ll have to do. Throw in Sydney Greenstreet and we’ve got a deal.

By gad, you are a card, sir. (In print, you can just imagine how swell that is when I say it.)

I distrust a man who says “when.” If he’s got to be careful not to drink too much, it’s because he’s not to be trusted when he does.

That’s it, Ken. FEEEEEEEED HIM!!!

I tell you straight out, sir, I’m a man who likes talking to a man who likes to talk.
That’s it, Ken. FEEEEEEEED HIM!!!
At least that makes it sound like I’m the lead centipede segment.
A thought: this would probably get more response if it was on the main movie page. I had to do a search to find it.

This was (is?) supposed to happen, but things change slowly sometimes. Now, it is on the main front page when it goes up, but with the onslaught of new material that changes pretty fast.

It was up there for (I think) episodes three and four, and then they stopped doing it again.
