As cold rain fell and dreary skies darkened over downtown, Minus the Bear appeared in top form at the Orange Peel, rocking the house with a combination of prog-rock synth, dueling guitars and electric drum loops that would have been a welcome addition to last month’s Moogfest. Despite a last minute cancellation from openers Dead Confederate (“Apparently they got robbed,” mused singer/guitarist Jake Snider. “Seems awfully strange. Kind of sounds made up.”) the band seemed to have no trouble picking up the slack — thanks in part to veteran performer/songwriter Tim Kasher (The Good Life, Cursive). Barreling through an extended set that included plenty of crowd-pleasing favorites and a host of brand new tracks, Minus the Bear served up a relentless onslaught of up-tempo offerings with such momentum they should have served dramamine at the bar.

I like this band … had to miss them due to knee surgery.
