“A pen.
A camera.
A bare light bulb.
A former speakeasy.
A converted mattress factory.
An idea factory.
An experiment.
A workspace.
A crucible.”
This prose poem of a fashion appeared on the Facebook invitation to the launch of The Reading Room, the gallery and studio space of artists Gary Peeples, Colby Caldwell and Phillip McGuire (seen below in a photo from their blog). The Reading Room opened on Saturday, Sept. 24 with a reception.
“Led by a trio of partners who use it as studio and display space, The Reading Room plays host to artists, engineers, scientists, farmers, musicians, and teachers who help broaden and deepen our relationship with the world,” says an explanation of the space. It’s located in the River Arts District, next to the Phil Mechanic building and is accessed through the Wedge Brewery parking lot, under the bridge, passed the entrance to Blue Ridge Biofuels and into the back of the last building on that strip.
Keep a lookout for upcoming events at this intriguing, light-filled, high-ceilinged, white-washed bastion of creativity. The following images are a document of the journey into the gallery.
