In case you haven’t noticed, the Diana Wortham Theatre has more than its fair share of concerts this month. Not one, but three top-notch performances are coming up, designed to lift the winter blues with music and stories.
The DePue Brothers Band is made up of four brothers who take their classical violin chops beyond the concert hall. A hearty mix of bluegrass, classical, rock and blues gives the band a unique sound that begs for a lively audience. They’ve been making music together for more than 25 years and in 1989 they were named the “Musical Family of America” by presidential decree. A few other musicians round out the group, but it’s the brothers that are at the heart of this band.

Join two singer-songwriters for one night of acoustic bliss. Susan Werner and Asheville’s David Wilcox have different styles, but they both approach songwriting with wit and wisdom. “Her philosophical stance is wry, his more sweet. Together they cover the gamut in a wonderful evening of top songwriting and guitar playing,” says the Diana Wortham website.

No need to pull out the shoulder pads for these “L.A. Law” stars. Jill Eikenberry and Michael Tucker (more famously known as Ann Kesley and Stuart Markowitz from the 1980s television drama) will take the stage with the formidable Isaiah Sheffer for a live production of “Slected Shorts.” If you haven’t heard of this public radio staple, tune into WCQS any Saturday morning to hear well-known actors read outstanding works of fiction.
