The plaque honoring Asheville firefighter Capt. Jeff Bowen was unveiled Saturday at a memorial outside the Buncombe County Courthouse, the Asheville Citizen-Times reported Sunday.
About 75 people, including Bowen’s widow, Stacy Bowen, took part in the ceremony.
Bowen, 37, died on July 28, 2011, while fighting a blaze set by an arsonist inside a commercial structure previously known as the 445 Biltmore Building. Nine other members of the Asheville Fire Department suffered injuries.
Bowen’s name is on a plaque affixed to an 8-ton granite rock outside the courthouse honoring those who died in the line of duty.
