PRESS RELEASE from Asheville Brewers Alliance
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (June 6, 2014) – The Asheville Brewers Alliance today announced the election of two new members to its board of directors: Anne-Fitten Glenn, Beer Communicatrix at Oskar Blues Brewery in Brevard, and Scott Jennings, Brewmaster at Sierra Nevada Brewing Company in Mills River. Joe Rowland, owner of Nantahala Brewing in Bryson City, was elected for a second term.
The new board selected Rowland as president, who succeeds John Lyda, brewmaster at Highland Brewing. Luke Dickinson, Hop Maestro at Wicked Weed Brewing, was selected as vice president; Barry Bialik, owner of Thirsty Monk Pub, will serve as treasurer; and Billy Pyatt, owner of Catawba Brewing, will serve as secretary. Board members, officers and committee chairs were determined at the Alliance’s annual general membership meeting on May 31, 2014.
“The Asheville Brewers Alliance is excited to have representatives from Oscar Blues and Sierra Nevada on the ABA leadership team. Anne-Fitten Glenn and Scott Jennings provide diverse craft brewing perspectives and experiences that add depth to the board, enhancing our efforts to promote and enrich the brewers of Western North Carolina,” said Rowland, who is the first president elected from outside the immediate Asheville area. “They’re exceptional people, who have contributed greatly to the quality, education and growth of the craft brewing community, and we’re excited to have them onboard.”
Additionally, Alliance members Mike Rangel, owner of Asheville Brewing Company, will serve as chair of the marketing committee; John Stuart, brewmaster at Greenman Brewing, will head up the membership committee; and Tim Schaller, owner of Wedge Brewery, will continue leading the best practices committee.
The board also introduced Jennifer McLucas as director of the Alliance. Lyda said, “Asheville first won the Beer City USA designation in 2009, and since landing in the national spotlight, we’ve seen rapid growth in the craft brewing community here in Western North Carolina. As an organization, we knew the best way to manage the growth and maintain the integrity of our craft was to hire a director. Over the next few months Jennifer will help the board develop and implement strategic growth and marketing plans so that we may remain a strong contributor on the national level while serving our local communities and members.”
