From a press release:

Youth OUTright introduces Young Voices project on Thursday, Sept. 11

Youth OUTright, WNC, Inc. will introduce its Young Voices project on Thursday evening, September 11, from 7:30 to 9:00 at the Jewish Community Center on Charlotte Street in Asheville.  Poets and actors will be featured.  The festive evening will include a complimentary hors d’oeuvres buffet and wine and beer bar.  While there is no charge for the event, reservations are strongly recommended.

Young Voices will become Youth OUTright’s annual community event focusing on youth performances, both in telling their own stories and through interpretations of the works of well-known lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender poets, playwrights and authors.

Queer Youth Theatre/Young Voices is a community-based performance development collaboration between Youth OUTright and the Drama Department at the University of North Carolina – Asheville (UNCA).  The project consists of two separate yet interconnected, complementary and mutually beneficial components; developing queer youth stories (Queer Youth Theatre) and presenting the queer youth experience to youth and adult audiences in Western North Carolina (Young Voices).  There is no other organization nor collaboration in Western NC that exists to develop these young voices and collect them as a performance piece for either young or adult audiences.

Youth OUTright, WNC, Inc., a 501c-3, not-for-profit organization, offers discussion groups and social activities for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth, ages 14-23. Topics and activities are led by two trained facilitators. Youth OUTright’s mission is to empower LGBTQ youth to be confident and vital members of the greater community.  For additional information, please visit:  www.youthoutright.org
